YEAR

2022

The new building of the Metropolitan College is actually the fourth building of the university campus and arises from the need to cover the increased educational needs of the College. It is a mixed-use building, as on the ground floor it hosts the area of a new university clinic of European standards, on the first floor there are student training rooms and on the second floor there are all the administrative offices, which are concentrated here from all the other buildings.

This new building is placed in the south-east corner of the plot, so as to leave the maximum possible free space between the buildings and to shade the existing buildings as little as possible. It follows the volume and morphology of the existing buildings, so as to create a single harmonious set of buildings, but at the same time it differentiates itself and acquires its own identity through its shell. The shell ceases to be a horizontal repetition of blinds and begins to change angles, directions and density, following a single zigzag line around the perimeter.

The building is also innovative, as it’s classified in energy class A+ with zero energy footprint on the environment. It is fully automated with KNX system, making it possible to operate and monitor it remotely. The lighting has been constructed in such way that it perceives the human presence and its intensity fluctuates according to the light entering from the frames. The air conditioning is VRV with inverter systems, the roof is planted, the hot water for use is produced by solar systems and the installation of a photovoltaic system is planned to reduce consumption to zero.
